Baby, it's Cold Outside!

Actually it's going to get worse in a couple days, but it's bad enough now. Thursday through Saturday, weather reports say we may reach 9 degrees F. I hate winter and this week... I really hate winter!

I've got to get some photos uploaded to my computer, so that I can show some pics here and spice things up a bit.

The prompt for this week is a word wanderlust. The word means the impulse to travel. It came to English from German words meaning to hike and enjoy. Think of the word and what it means to you. Do you feel it now? Have you felt it in the past? Does thinking about the word make you see a picture in your mind? Do art, journal, write prose or poetry or whatever you are inspired to do!

Alyson Stanfield had a really cool thing on her blog lately. Thought I'd share it here.

How to Have Your Best Year Ever
DECIDE to go for it. ACT on your decision. LOVE with all your heart.
STOP complaining and whining. PLAY whenever possible. SAY NO
when you need to. LEARN stuff. PRACTICE daily gratitude. MAKE
new friends. LOOK for the joy in each task. CREATE with abandon.
INSPIRE others. SEEK adventure. BE KIND to everyone. REST and
be kind to yourself. GIGGLE.

Some I'm pretty good at and some I'll work at harder!

I'm Back from my Holiday Break!!

Okay, to the 2 people that keep telling me that you're waiting for me to post - you know who you are - HERE I am!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that everybody had a terrific Christmas or whatever other holiday you might celebrate. Our Christmas was merry and we are all hopeful that 2009 will be a good one. I had family get-togethers and family get-togethers -- all fun!

I'm not a resolution person... as I said at a gathering on New Year's Day... I see them as setting yourself up to fail (I got both laughed at and scolded for that comment). BUT I do like Christine Kane's idea (I've read her blog for a couple of years now as does my friend Kerri apparently). So, I think that my word for 2009 has to be confidence. This is something I find the past year, I've really been lacking in, so maybe if I make it a word to focus on that will help!

The Ten on Tuesday list for this week is "10 Things You Want to do in 2009". Now, I don't see these as the same thing as resolutions...these strike me as specific things you want to do, not like things you want to change about yourself or something. Anyway, mine follow in no particular order:
1. My daughter has asked me to be in the delivery room with them, so I really hope to do that in 2009 (that I'll get to the hospital in time and all)!
2. It would be nice to spend a night or 2 away with my husband somewhere (we haven't done that in awhile).
3. Spend time with my grand kids - I'll have 3 for more than half the year!
4. Spend time with my 4 grown kids and families.
5. Do artwork for shows.
6. Do artwork just for fun.
7. Do some needlework again.
8. Read more fiction than I did this past year.
9. Focus on the word confidence as stated above.
Alright, I can only come up with 9, but there they are.

As a storm is headed our way, I have to choose this as the quote for tonight:
"Always maintain a kind of summer when in the middle of winter". Thoreau

Hello, Again!

Well, it has been awhile!! I finally got over that horribly nasty cold and then have just been so busy with Christmas stuff. I decided that I was just going to say hello and then will "see" you all again after Christmas. Please have a great Christmas.

A Thankful Time of Year

These are a couple of pictures of parts of 2 of my collages that I had Moo cards made out of (mini business cards). They have the picture on the front and your information on the back.
For the prompt this week, of course, it has to have a Thanksgiving theme! I want you to think of something that you are thankful for, from your past or your present, and do art about that. Photos could be included in the art, if you'd like. Whatever works for what you are being thankful for.
The quote for today will be this harvest prayer that I love.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Harvest Prayer(Anonymous 17th Century Sermon)
Please be gentle with yourself and others.
We are all children of chance,
And none can say why some fields blossom
While others lay brown beneath the harvest sun.
Take hope that your season will come.
Share the joy of those whose season is at hand.
Care for those around you.
Look past your differences.
Their dreams are no less than yours,
Their choices in life no more easily made.
And give.
Give in any way you can.
Give in every way you can.
Give whatever you possess.
Give from your heart.
To give is to love.
To withhold is to wither.
Care less for the size of your harvest than for how it is shared,
And your life will have meaning
And your heart will have peace.

Can it Possibly be Monday Already??

Yes, I guess it can. I didn't post much last week because I had a cold all week. I didn't feel horrible (thankfully), but just kind of lousy.

I did manage to get my second piece done for the art show with the shrine theme. (I showed you my first piece last week - a shrine to my Grandmother) The second was a large canvas done about the Mona Lisa. I've always loved the Mona Lisa. I find looking at her very soothing. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a picture taken before handing it in, so will post a picture after I get it back in December.

The prompt for this week is to think of a painting or style of painting that evokes a memory for you. A memory that comes to mind for me is sitting in a doctor's office with my son when he was 10 or 11. He asked "why would they have an awful painting like that on the wall?". When I looked it was a print of a Grandma Moses. I tried to explain that she was very famous and very highly thought of, but he wasn't accepting that.
So, with the prompt, take the memory and do art from that or do something in the style of the technique of the painting.

"Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours". Richard Bach

New Art and a Prompt

This is a piece that I finished for a show. It had to be a shrine of some sort to someone or something meaningful in your life. This is an 8 x 10" canvas with a photo of my Grandmother that has been "painted over" (a technique taught to me by my very good friend Marilyn), the canvas is painted and has 2 small canvases attached (one is a photo of me with Grandma and the other is my four kids with Grandma). Along the edges I attached etched wood strips. No beeswax on this one! I'm working on one more for the same show that is beeswax.
